Speak The Truth In Love
Eph. 4:15, 25, 29
While Apostle Paul was emphasising the essence of unity to the church. He urged the Ephesian brethren to live lives worthy of their calling as Christians. They should speak the truth in love one to another. Although these verses are addressed to the church as God’s family, they are as well applicable to family relationships at home. There is need to speak the truth in love in all situations in order for the church to stay together in unity. Not just speaking the truth but speaking the truth in love. Often times, people say that truth is bitter and so they speak it not minding its effect on the hearer. The Bible is exhorting us today to always speak the truth in love such that it brings healing, restoration, edification, etc. Believers should ensure that no unwholesome word proceeds from their mouths, but only such as is good for edification according to the need of the moment so that it will give grace to those who hear. Any person who claims to be ruled by Christ and led by the Spirit, will put away speech patterns reflecting anger, defamation of others’ character, and lies. In addition, truth speaking is very important in conflict resolution as any intervention that’s based on lies will be addressing the peripheral issues, and such an intervention may become unsustainable.
Point of Emphasis: Speaking the truth can be counter-productive if not done in love; so be mindful of how you say it.
Prayer Point: Oh Lord, grant me wisdom to always present the truth in love in all situations.
