Don’t Keep Record Of Others’ Offence
Col. 3:12-15
A man drank too much at a party and embarrassed the wife. The next morning, he felt bad and asked his wife to forgive him. She said she would, yet she kept bringing it up. One day in discouragement he said, ‘I thought you were going to forgive and forget’. The wife said, I have, I just don’t want you to forget that I have forgiven and forgotten’. Do you forgive and forget like that? Keeping score only works in competitive sports; it is disastrous in relationship. Much more needs to be learnt. Forgiving is harder when the offence is great. Small offences can be forgiven quickly; big ones require a healing process. But until you make the decision to forgive, the process can’t even begin. The process is this: make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. You must focus on people’s worth, not their weakness. You must turn your heart away from what is forgiven, to what can be. Finally, remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Read Ps. 19:11
Point of Emphasis: Forgive as quickly and completely as the master forgave you.
Prayer Point: Oh Lord, grant unto me the heart of forgiveness
