Israel’s Spiritual Pride

Lk. 3:7-11

Jews believed they are more important before God than any other race because they are descendants of Abraham, the friend of God. John the Baptist came out to preach to the people to repent and be ready to receive the coming Messiah. Even in their coming out to John, they were blinded to their spiritual need to repent and ask God for forgiveness. They trusted in being descendants of Abraham to be acceptable to God. Many in the church today also put their trust in different things which they believe are good enough to impress God, and for which God will grant them admission into heaven. Besides indulging in sin, lack of love for God and fellow men is another symptom of spiritual pride. A person who realises his spiritual needs, draws close to God “who gives to all liberally, and without reproach”.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: Bear fruits worthy of repentance and do not put your trust in your status.

PRAYER POINT: I reject all forms of spiritual pride that could disqualify me from inheriting the kingdom of heaven.
