Marriage Is For Companionship
Songs of Solomon 2:16-17
People get married for various reasons. We need to keep in focus the major reason why God instituted marriage. After He created man He concluded that “it is not good that man should be alone” (Gen. 2:18). Man needs a companion with whom he can share his joys and sorrows. For two people to get close together spiritually, emotionally and physically, they need to love each other. Love goes deeper than feelings, which can fluctuate from day to day. Love is anchored on a willful commitment to the spouse one has chosen to love. For married couples, there is the danger to want to maintain one’s individuality which one enjoyed prior to marriage. Unless the couple blends together as friends they are merely co-tenants and not companions; they are not “beloved”. It takes a measure of risk to be truly open with one’s spouse. Without taking this risk the couple cannot become one; the devil then has easy access into such homes.
Point of Emphasis: Your spouse should be your closest friend if you want to enjoy your family life.
Prayer Point: Father, bring closer the couples who are emotionally and spiritually far apart.
