The Promise Was Fulfilled
Acts 1:4-8, 2:1-4
Though Jesus had finished all His work and was ready to return to glory, He knew the danger that believers will face if they were to go out into the world in their own power or strength. He had already given them His authority but now they would need another kind of power. They would need a type of power that literally could transform them. Doing any ministry in our own power will not work well. The world today is full of examples of Christians attempting to minister in their own strength! Jesus did not encourage the disciples to do anything with their own power. He instructed them to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit … this will empower them the way they needed to be empowered to do the work Jesus was leaving for them to do. They needed something more than just authority, they needed a transforming power! The baptism with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost signifies the beginning of the fulfilment of the promise of God in the Old Testament (Joel 2:28). The fulfilment is also for you. Pray, yearn and ask for it. You will get it.
Point of Emphasis: Lord, Jesus give me the POWER of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer Point: O Lord God! Empower me with the Holy Ghost power.
