Promoting And Guarding Faith
Acts 20:28-32
Paul and James knew that the Jewish ceremonies could not bring salvation. Paul had the heart that was consistent with the truth. He communicated his conviction boldly. In his farewell message to the Ephesian elders, Paul admonished them: “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood” (Acts 20:28, NIV). In Richard Baxter (1992) admonition on “the Oversight of Ourselves” he wrote, “See that the work of saving grace be thoroughly wrought in your own souls. Take heed to yourselves, lest you be void of that saving grace of God which you offer to others, and be strangers to the effectual working of that gospel which you preach; and lest, while you proclaim to the world the necessity of a Saviour, your own hearts should neglect him, and you should miss of an interest in him and his saving benefits.” Christians must be anointed with the Holy Spirit on daily and hourly basis by surrendering to the transforming power. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers” (1 Tim. 4:16, NIV).
Point of Emphasis: Keep watch over your spiritual life.
Prayer Point: Lord, help me to surrender to the transforming power of the Holy Ghost on hourly and daily basis.
