Check Your Motive

Acts 8: 25-37

The Scripture read this morning illustrates the important role a Christian with right motives can play to transform conflicting situation into an arena where needs are met. Literarily, Philip led the Ethiopian Eunuch to Christ. We can also make these deductions from what transpired between Philip and the Eunuch of great authority under Candace the Queen of the Ethiopians. (i) verse 25 affirms that Philip continued to discharge the responsibility of what he knew to do (i.e. preaching the gospel) (ii) He forewent his right by being flexible to go to the desert (vv. 26-28) (iii) He was spiritually sensitive to the Holy Spirit – He listened and adhered to what God told him through the Holy Spirit (vv. 29-30) (iv) He made use of a relational approach with the Eunuch to make himself relevant (vv. 31-35). Philip successfully led the man to Christ because he had the right motive. Believers can emulate this process which Philip took to exert their relevance to influence a victim of conflict to restoration. The victims can act like the eunuch also to sign on for Christ so that God may be glorified.

Point of Emphasis: Be spiritually sensitive, listen, and adhere to what the Holy Spirit tells you.

Prayer Point: Help me Lord to be flexible, not to demand for my own way at the expense of others but to give in to Your will for the common good of all.
