Be Ready To Suffer For Christ
1 Pet. 4:14-16
There is a huddle that believers in Christ must cross before they can scale through in life. There are pleasures they must forgo for their purpose in life. Having the grace to be counted among the saints of God, you must forsake the pleasure of sin and suffer for being righteous. Remember, Christ our Saviour was mocked, beaten and crucified for the sin He did not commit. Verse 14 says “if you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you…” Ensure that you don’t suffer as a criminal. The history of persecution in the first few centuries of Christianity is well known. The Bible itself, especially the book of Acts, gives glimpses into what awaited the church. Persecution, with the suffering it brings, is also clearly a present reality in the life of the Christians to whom Peter was writing and he made it clear that to suffer persecution for being a Christian is to partake of Christ’s suffering. It is not something to be unexpected. God sometimes allows sufferings, trials, persecutions and other kinds of adversity as vital events in our spiritual growth process. As long as we are in this world, we are called to bear suffering patiently and see it through to God’s ultimate purpose. The lesson for us is that whenever we suffer and emerge patiently and faithfully from it, God is pleased because we are increasing our eternal capacity to glorify Him. We too should take great pleasure and joy in the outcome of a time of suffering, trial, or persecution, realizing that we are enhancing our heavenly reward and understanding more about the power of suffering (Rev. 2:10).
Point Of Emphasis: Suffering for Christ produces fresh joy, true humility and comfort.
Prayer Point: Ask God for wisdom to help us persevere scripturally
