Admonition From A Trustworthy Mentor
1 Cor. 4:14-21
To admonish is to reprimand firmly or to earnestly urge or warn. The person qualified to admonish another person must be someone whose life clearly portrays a shining quality – it is not someone who cannot say as Paul “I urge you, imitate me”. He must not be a person who can only say, ‘do as I say’ and not ‘do as I do’. Paul was a very good example to the Christians in the church in Corinth. He won them to Christ and demonstrated to them a godly honest and disciplined life. When the Christians in Corinth veered from the straight path of godly living, he was the most qualified person to earnestly warn and correct them. Within the church, birds of the same feather flock together – godly people seek godly people when they need admonition, while permissive people seek those who will agree with their way of life.
Point of Emphasis: Let your life be a good example for young believers such that you can honestly ask them to imitate you.
Prayer Point: Father, give me the grace to be a good mentor to those behind me.
