Christ’s Model Prayer

Lk. 11:1-13

Christ set for Christians a model prayer when one of His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. Every child of God should have a place and time to be alone with God. Personal prayer is vital in the morning to commit the day to God’s hand and in the evening or night to thank God for His acts in our lives. Also, we can pray when the Holy Spirit prompts us to do so. Whether we pray secretly or openly, the Holy Spirit is ready to reward us openly. The model prayer that Christ prayed shows what should be the areas of concern for believers. The prayer in our passage has six requests: three relate to holiness and the will of God and three to personal needs. Our prayer should include worship of the heavenly father because He cares for us. He is also holy. We must hallow His name. We must have regard for His name and His Church. We must have concern for the kingdom of God on Earth and the future one. Pray for God’s presence in order to destroy the works of Satan. We must sincerely desire God’s will to be done in our life. Pray for our daily bread, forgive those who trespass against us so that our sins also can be forgiven. We must request that God should deliver us from evil.

Point of Emphasis: Follow Christ’s model prayer in order not to pray amiss.
