Relationship Based On Justice and Mercy
Matt. 23:18-24
In an effort to maintain smooth relationship within a congregation, rules and regulations are put in place for smooth administration. Members become passive in keeping these rules and regulations and by this, peace and smooth relationship eludes the congregation. Cordial relationship which results in peace can only thrive on the foundation of justice, mercy and truth. The Jewish spiritual leaders were meticulous in obeying the rule of paying tithes and carrying out religious rites, but ignored the issues of justice, mercy and truth. Jesus did not nullify the regulations on payment of tithes and performing religious rites. He also pointed out that the relationship that will make the church effective is more important. If the relationship in the church is not based on equity, the church cannot fulfil its mandate.
Point of Emphasis: Justice, mercy and truth are the foundation stones of cordial relationship.
Prayer Point: Father, grant us the wisdom to put justice and mercy first in our church.
