Sons, Not Bastards

Heb. 12:6-12

A father has the moral justification to correct his child whenever he or she goes wrong. The African tradition permits a parent to discipline his or her child either by the use of cane in flogging the child or by employing any other form of punishment. Rebuking a child or chastising him, when done in love, is expected to bring about positive changes in the character of the child. This in-turn molds the child’s character into what is acceptable in the society. Likewise, God loves each of His children and wants them to be like Him in all ways. Whenever we derail or go astray, He has His way of bringing us back to Himself; chastising us in love according to the measure He knows we can bear. It is only a bastard that will revolt against his father when being corrected. As children of God, we are encouraged to take every chastisement and rebuke from God with joy and see it as a means of molding us to be like Him in righteousness. We must learn to surrender ourselves to God for tutoring.

Point of Emphasis: Sons respect the rebuke of their parents and accept it in good fate, but bastards rebel.

Prayer Point: Father, form me and mold me after Your will till I become like You.
