Vengeance Belongs To God
Rom. 12:17-21; Matt. 18:21-22
Vengeance and revenge are two words that can be used interchangeably and they simply mean punishment that is inflicted in return for a wrong. It is a display of lack of forgiving spirit. Who else should forgive people and not even remember people’s wrongdoings if not we Christians brought back into reckoning with God by the singular feat of Jesus on the cross by means of which our debt was cleanly covered. It is unchristian to take revenge or be vengeful. It is a clear demonstration of lack of understanding of what Jesus did for you on the cross. The scriptures enjoin us to abhor evil and cling to what is good. By your refusal to avenge yourself or take revenge for a wrong done to you, you proved to the world that you are of a different kind and the world will be able to see your good works then praises will be given to your Father in heaven. Forgive people generously and never keep account of wrongdoings. If somebody would offend you seventy times seven times in a day then you have got no other business than to sit with the person and watch him offend you every minute!
Point Of Emphasis: It is unchristian to take revenge or be vengeful.
Prayer Points: Help me to forgive others freely and always as I have been forgiven by the Lord.
